Scientists returned to the Khan Lab School in California last Friday to teach students lessons on Camouflage & Mimicry, and Populations as part of the school’s unit on Endangered Species. Students enjoyed learning about camouflage with a game involving different colored beads that had to be hunted on varying background colors to see in action how animals use concealing coloration to camouflage.
As part of the Populations lesson, students fished for survival using chopsticks as fishing rods. In this activity, they investigated the “Tragedy of the Commons” and how a resource held in common must be protected. They finished off the day with a game of “Oh Deer”, learning about the elements of a habitat and the resources necessary for survival. We had a great visit and enjoyed working with the students at the Khan Lab School!
