Scientists Visit Khan Lab School in California

Two of our scientists joined the California Science from Scientists team for a visit to the Khan Lab School in California. During the visit, our team shared lessons related to fresh foods and food additives. Students had brought in food labels and had a discussion on what ingredients were in food, reading food labels, and health. The session broke out into three groups by age where specific lessons were taught to each group. The younger students had the opportunity to learn about how an orange grows, creating a paper model in the shape of an orange. The older students learned about food additives and investigated the iron content of cereal. As part of the fresh food discussion, students were able to test the vitamin C content in orange juice, comparing fresh, frozen and from concentrated juices. It was a great visit to the Khan Lab School and we really enjoyed getting to share these lessons with their students.
