C05 Acids and Bases Classroom Post text Acids and bases: They’re everywhere! Today we found out that many common household chemicals are acids or bases. To determine which chemical is an acid and which is a base, we added red cabbage juice to them. Red cabbage juice is made from red cabbage and works as a pH indicator, which means that it changes color in the presence of acids and bases. We then estimated the pH of our household chemicals by using a pH strip to find out how strong our acids and bases were. We also learned how acids and bases react if they are mixed with each other and what pH the solution after the reaction will have. Ask your student how you can turn an acid into a base!
