Plastic in the Ocean

This week, students became environmental engineers as they designed a filter to remove plastics from a sample of ocean water collected from an ocean gyre. Students worked in teams to design, build, and test their filter. Their limitations included time and number of materials used. If there was time, once students filtered their water, they had the opportunity to further test for the presence of plastics using Nile Red Dye solution.
