The Wonderful World of Plants

Knowledge was “blooming” this week as students investigated the plant world. Students learned about photosynthesis and how scientists classify the many different types of plants based on characteristics such as whether or not they have roots & stems, seeds, and flowers. The pollination process was explored with a game matching four different pollinators (bees, butterflies, birds and bats) with their preferred flowers followed by a dissection of actual Peruvian lilies. During the dissection, students worked on identifying and determining the function of the specialized structures of the flower involved in the reproductive process of plants.

Don’t be surprised if your budding scientist asks to dissect the next bouquet that enters your house!
