We *Heart* Science!

This week the CHA 3rd and 4th graders continued their journey through the human body with a lesson on the circulatory system. We discussed the difference between arteries and veins, the anatomy of the heart, and followed the path blood takes from picking up oxygen at the lungs to delivering it to the cells throughout our bodies. Then they got to observe the structures of the heart in real life as they watched Dr. G perform a heart dissection! The students were amazed by how tough and thick the walls of the heart were! We even got to follow the path blood takes by sticking our fingers in the different arteries and veins and seeing which heart chambers they went into. Ask your little scientist what is going on in the heart when we hear the “lub-dub” sound and why the walls of the left side of the heart are much thicker than the right side!
