Where’s the Water?

Today students explored how the Earth’s water is distributed among different sources. Starting with 1000mL of water, student allocated out amounts for aquifers, glaciers, lakes, rivers, and oceans. Everyone was surprised to learn that in this model, approximately 972mL of the 1000mL was salty ocean water! We briefly discussed salt vs. freshwater density with a fun water layering experiment.
