Science from Scientists Expands Program Offerings to Schools in California

Massachusetts State endorsed @Scale program begins partnership with two schools in California

Boston, MA – December 3, 2014 Science from Scientists (SfS) has now expanded their program that sends real scientists into the classroom to teach hands-on, framework compliant lessons to two schools in California.

SfS is presently incorporated into 25 Massachusetts schools and services over 3,000 students in their classrooms every other week throughout the school year. The expansion to California will allow the program to impact the science education of over 200 students in Brisbane and San Mateo, California with a focus on STEM.

“This expansion is pivotal for SfS for it allows us to scale the success we have garnered in Massachusetts and expand our services to California in a sustainable way. We have long considered expanding beyond Massachusetts and we are proud to launch our partnership with the Bayside STEM Academy and Lipman School where we will serve 150 6th graders and 50 7th graders respectively” said SfS Founder, Executive Director and Chairman, Erika Ebbel Angle.

Dr. Angle remarked that SfS is “…excited to bring Liu Qi Chen PhD, Gary Ciambrone PhD, Lauren Amundson and Steffany Loeb on board to work with our partner schools to not only increase student engagement in STEM but also student aptitude as well. They all bring a host of real life science experience that makes them dynamic instructors.” The program will officially launch on December 9 at Bayside STEM Academy and December 10 at Lipman School.

SfS has made it their mission to improve the attitudes and aptitudes of 4th-8th graders through an award-winning, during school STEM enrichment program that has led to a 20% increase in Science Technology/Engineering Massachusetts Comprehensive Assessment System (MCAS) test scores in their partner schools during the 2013-2014 academic school year.

The expansion services as a milestone in the organization’s long-term goal of scaling to become a national program that improves the attitudes and aptitudes of students in STEM disciplines.

Dr. Angle is the Founder and Executive Director of Science from Scientists holds a Ph.D. in Biochemistry from Boston University School of Medicine and an undergraduate degree from MIT. No stranger to exploring new lands, Dr. Angle is also the former Miss Massachusetts 2004 and has made extending quality STEM education to students a lifelong goal.
