Science and environment-themed book encourages children to help keep the Earth green

Boston, MA – August 27, 2014Science from Scientists founder and chairman, Dr. Erika Ebbel Angle, has co-authored a new children’s book entitled, Ella Bella Coccinella, with illustrator, Anne Holt. The colorful book introduces young audiences (ages 3-7) to science and their environment while inspiring them to be conscious inhabitants of the world.  All profits go directly to supporting Science, Technology, Engineering and Math (STEM) initiatives through activities conducted by Science from Scientists.

Designed to teach children more about science and the environment, the book infuses definitions in the glossary with images to help them further engage with the environment while providing a scientific background on each insect. The premise of the book follows the adventures of Ella Bella, a ladybug who lives in a beautiful garden until her life is unsettled by litter bugs that begin to tarnish her home. Refusing to be defeated, Ella Bella consults her friends and together they learn about what they can do to help keep the Earth clean and green.

“Children have a care-free inquisitiveness and curiosity about them; they are not afraid getting their hands dirty and muddy, instead, they explore the world with a fascinating dedication” said Dr. Angle. “This book matches that intense curiosity with science and environmental education with the hopes of inspiring their continued curiosity and scholastic engagement in all things STEM.”

Committed to children’s education, Dr. Angle is the Founder and Executive Chairman of Science from Scientists, an award-winning curricular STEM enrichment program incorporated into 27 Massachusetts schools. She holds a Ph.D. in Biochemistry from Boston University School of Medicine and an undergraduate degree from MIT. No stranger to exploring new things, Dr. Angle is also the former Miss Massachusetts 2004.

Co-author Anne Holt is an art teacher, fine artist, illustrator and outdoor experiential education instructor. While heading the art department at the Telluride Mountain School in Colorado, Ms. Holt developed a curriculum integrating the arts with science and humanities.

The book is available through Ingram publishers and through all major book retailers including Barnes and Noble, as well as select boutiques and book stores for $17.95.
